Munsell DG (DiGital) is our latest app, and one we're very excited about. We will be building on it extensively in the months and years ahead. It is available on the Apple App Store.
Version 1, released in May 2012, serves two core purposes:
- Browse the Munsell color space and explore the RGB equivalents of the various Munsell colors, organized by hue, value and chroma, and
- for Photoshop (CS5 or later) and Photoshop Elements (version 10 or later), connect your iOS device over your local network and touch the colors to activate them in Photoshop (or Elements), using your device as a live Munsell color picker/palette!
Version 2 is in development now, with some exciting new technology ahead!
Munsell DG is a free download, and the Photoshop Connect Upgrade is $2.99 (in the US; prices vary in other markets, see app for details). You can test your Photoshop connection for free within the app before purchasing the upgrade, to make sure everything works and your software and network are compatible.
We are excited to be able to pioneer this technology to send Munsell color from a touchscreen to Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. For the first time, digital artists will be able to easily use Munsell color notation and concepts in their work with a fast and simple workflow, and apply the same color notation to traditional painting, using the same vocabulary and helping to bridge the divide between the digital and traditional modes of creating art.
